A woman was grabbed and threatened with a meat cleaver in a random attack on the streets of Kunming on April 8. The victim was held hostage for over an hour but fortunately was ultimately unharmed. The motive for the attack is as yet unknown.
The woman remained remarkably calm as the man repeatedly threatened to cut her throat. Police were quick to the scene to try and negotiate with the man but their attempts were futile and plain clothes police eventually managed to surprise him and tackle him to the ground.
The victim fainted after being released and was rushed to hospital. Police have arrested the man but the reason behind the attack still hasn’t been determined.
