What are Women After in Life? A Simple Survey Reveals All

What are Women After in Life? A Simple Survey Reveals All
Mar 27, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Editor’s note: This translated article outlines the key elements of a survey conducted by the Guangzhou Women’s Federation and shows that very few female university students in China would “rather cry in a BMW than laugh on a bike.” It also points to a change in attitudes towards careers, life and love as many more women look to the internet for answers their family won’t give them.

The Guangzhou Women’s Federation recently conducted a survey of 800 female university students from nine different universities to try and understand what young women look for in terms of careers, life and love. According to the results, internal office work is no longer the first choice career for female university students upon graduation.

On the subject of academic motivation, about 70 percent of the female students interviewed said that they choose to study at university in order to “achieve ambitions” and “find a good job in the future.” However, 32.7 percent agreed that the main purpose of university study is to, “improve myself and marry a good husband.” Only 0.5 percent chose “marry a rich man” as a goal for university study.

What do they look for in a partner?

In criteria for finding a mate, women choose character, potential for development and identity as the three most important factors. The lowest factors were physical condition, body appearance and family background. Further investigation found that 60.8 percent of female students disagreed that it was important to, “marry a rich and handsome man,” and 77.6 percent said that they would not, “rather cry in a BMW than laugh on a bike.”

What does their preferred career path look like?

On the subject of careers after graduation, 28 percent of female students ranked working in a top company as their first choice. 14.3 percent wanted to work for the government (including as civil servants or for public institutions), 13.2 percent were flexible when it came to employment, while 2.4 percent planned to start their own businesses. Only 0.5 percent planned to get married directly after graduation in lieu of starting a career.

Sex education & dealing with sexual harassment

Due to a lack of sex education within individual families, half of the women had used the Internet as a tool to educate themselves as well as using newspapers and magazines, classmates and friends, and education through school. Only 16.6 percent had learned about sex education from their parents.

In the survey nearly 90 percent of female students reported that their female classmates and friends have experienced sexual harassment. Only 10.1 percent said that they had not heard of any experiences. Reported sexual harassment incidents were mainly on public transportation (bus, metro, train, etc.) followed by the bathroom and the office. Many of the women spoken to said they were now passionate about working to pass anti-sexual harassment legislation.

"...70 percent of the female students interviewed said that they choose to study at university in order to “achieve ambitions” and “find a good job in the future.” That is expected with university students. Ever wonder what those who only has a high school education and are now working in a factory would say?

All you guys worrying about trying to find a girl to marry you need to take a step back and relax because the Chinese girls might want to marry rich but they still want sex and after age 30 they ain't getting any. The rich Chinese guys I know all have a wife who bore them a child and a phone full of girlfriends who are younger and more sexy. My friend aid to me he's put his we chat filter to over thirty years old and he now has a full schedule specifically because this is what is happening. Besides if you want to marry a girl then look for one in the marriage age (24-29) and propose they won't say no because they all have tremendous pressure to marry from their folks. Besides for us guys there's no rush to get married but girls have this biological clock that just keeps on ticking. Worrying about whether she loves you for your money or any other reason is all irrelevant because she still loves you anyway. All this concern that the women is only looking for money means nothing when she's laughing, having a great time and spending time with you so don't fuss yourself with that nonsense because she's still going home with you if you got game...LOL

I'd love to laugh on a bike.. and I chose to laugh on a bike. But I'm crying on the bike. I only look for happiness. Besides Love, understanding and supporting are the most important things is marriage life.

I have a couple male Chinese friends who can't marry their girlfriends due to not having enough money for a house and a car. The girls want to marry but the parents of the girls won't allow this. mike695ca, I didn't here anyone putting down Chinese women. You sound like a racist, nationalistic "tool" by the way. Nice to know that only a small percentage of Chinese share your racist views... (How small is is Mike? No need to be jealous of us.)

Why is everyone so damn negative towards chinese women??? I sure hope you guys are all gay, cause to even touch any of these girls in this country would make you all giant hypocrites. I know you guys would have a different view being in different parts of the city but @louischuahm lived in guangzhou for a long period as well. Guangzhou is much more socially and economically developed then many other places in China and I tend to believe the survey. There is a reason surveys are anonymous. So that people can be truthful. I know @Mateusz looooves to show that hes the smartest douche in the world, so lets just follow him and say the hundreds of billions of dollars spent in marketing around the world is wrong and every survey is crap. My wife, who happens to be from Guangdong, is adamant that we do not buy a house. She likes to look and rent, and is sure the bubble will break and ill get screwed. Her family doesnt even know how much I make because they never asked. Are they loaded? Nope. But like the majority of people from Guangzhou food and shelter is not an issue and never has been. So now they can focus on other things in life. The point is, your hate mongering of chinese women makes you look ignorant. Instead of saying that the survey is bullshit and they will always be gold diggers. Why not either ignore it, or be a little positive and be happy that attitudes are changing however slowly. Fact is there will always be gold diggers everywhere, China is extremely pronounced because of the huge wealth gap. Canadian women are never accused of being whores, perhaps because they are virtuous, or perhaps because everyone in Canada is pretty much the exact same wealth wise. Im sure if a wealth gap was created and half of the population was poor, then all kinds of hot chicks would be sucking pole for a ride in a benz. Perhaps its just the way it works. Im sure you guys have been burned alot by these women, you dont have a house or a car so women dont touch you, so hell, all chinese women must be whores!!!! But perhaps.... just maybe.... some of you are just tools that deserve to be alone??

Nice one! You summed Mateusz and others up so well that I don't have anything to add to it! Materialism gets a lot of bad rap over here... I dunno, I don't think I see it as bad as people say it is. Avoiding pointless discussions about the three T's, there's plenty of chill and down to earth people too. ... Understood that the more developed southern cities may have a different ratio of chill vs. materialistic people. But I mean.. if there's girls that enjoy having a ride in a nice ride, so what? ^^ if you don't have the means to provide that , there's still tons of fish in the sea.

I agree with you completetely. It's stupid just to judge on sth or sb in a bad way, just because of a negative thinking. I think that in every country a similar amount of women look more for rich than for nice husbands, whereas many men look for beautiful and sexy wifes. This is a widespread phenomenon and nobody should judge particular countries about it. Besides, I have a girlfriend, we have serious plans and we will probably marry when I'm still studying. She is from Nanjing and never told me about any requirements.

Give it some time. I took my girl two years, and now she talks about money a lot more than before. I asked why now and not before. She responded, "Because I am Chinese."

Exactly. There are poor people all over the world, but you can find plenty of black, latina, eastern european or other women who have a sense of decency and empathy despite their financial situation. Chinese women are schooled, raised and programmed to go through life in blind hysteria until they're rich enough to look down, laugh and trample on the other rats in the race. Food is so important because 80 million of them starved because of poor decisions, greed and apathy. Their reactionary (I use the anti-capitalist term correctly and as an insult) solution to scarcity problems seems to consistently involve killing off the weak. Whether it's throwing your baby daughter in the river, starving poor farmers to death, sending chengguan to beat a poor merchant half to death, 'cracking down' on 'rebellious' minorities, denying people the right to work in the cities, kicking defenseless house/landowners off their property, or simply keeping well-paid jobs within rich families... it all boils down to "Problem? Let's make people suffer or die until the problem goes away." Chinese women are terrified of being poor, and perhaps for good reason. But @mike695ca, it's certain that this isn't a *normal* phenomenon. It's dystopian; far worse than reality needs to be. You got yours Jack, and the world seems all sunshine and rosepetals to you now. But there is a problem in China - it's wrong to deny that.

Roles reversed. Would any guy feel comfortable with a girl who is financially incompetent or who is a lavish spender? Would he marry a financial burden and still be happy in love? Every living thing on Earth has been programmed with a secret genetic code to ensure its own survival and comfort. Wondering if any of you guys knows how a male animal woos a female...a nest, a fight, a dance, a song, some sort of pray.... In human civilizations, a different thing is at men's disposal to show strength and ability: Money. Behind money is what? Efforts an animal would take to show "I love you" and win. Not too many humans, men and women, can give up materialistic needs (good food, well-designed facilities, new clothes, home services, travels, gym membership, movie tickets, etc. that only money can buy) in the name of love. It is by Nature's order no matter where we are on this planet.

The problem with these surveys is that they rely on how people view themselves, and want to be viewed. If women feel that "gold digger" is a negative, then they will be less likely to say they value a man for money. It doesn't mean they actually don't consider money important, just that they want to be seen as not that shallow. It's like when you ask a guy what he is looking for in a girl. He might be thinking, "Thin, but big chested", but since that would make him seem shallow, he'd say, "Nice personality" instead. Some might not even be intentionally dishonest, but really do think that they're less shallow than they are. A man can really think that personality is all that matters, but instinct might lock his attention at the girl with long legs and a tight ass in tight shorts. Likewise, "Only 0.5 percent chose “marry a rich man” as a goal for university study." , but that doesn't mean they wouldn't jump at/on the first guy with a ten figure income.

Can't say I believe or not believe the survey. However, the current requirements for men is still house, car and holidays, in that order. I don't think that will change in the short term. With 7 million graduates coming out each year ready to conquer the world, it's hard to imagine that material comfort is no longer cherished. End of the day, most will find that there's no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
