Wenzhou High School Students Wearing Masks in Class Causes Concern
Mar 21, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A report on Weibo showed students in a Wenzhou high school wearing face masks inside their classroom, causing mass concern. The school’s headmaster, Mr. Zhang, said that the condition of the air was terrible last year but briefly improved after renovations were done in January this year. However, the past two days were so bad that students all agreed to wear their masks during class. The reason was due to both bad air quality as well as a stench that was unbearable.

The national Environmental Protection Department finally got involved this week and are busy trying to find the source of the problem and fix it. The school has been shut down temporarily to protect the students. The most likely solution is to move nearby factories and waste recycling companies.

Poor kids these days. Really sad story. It's the high time for us to self-reflect thoroughly in order to strike a balance between economic development and environment protection. It's an imperative and daunting task because the costs could be a heck higher than what you gain if you go beyond the red line.
