Since the knife attacks which took place in Kunming on March 1, the citizens of China are fearing for their personal safety. This fear was most evident when there was a false alarm at a mall in the center Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

In the afternoon of March 14 there was pandemonium at a Mall on Chunxi Road when rumors spread about another knife attack having taken place inside. As the rumor spread people rushed outside, into the street and away from the ‘danger’ while the police went inside to investigate. An official statement made later that day by the police announced that there was no threat and that the whole mess was just a misunderstanding brought about by fear.

Apparently, there were a group of people from Xinjiang, and when the locals saw them they got scared and ran away. Ironically, because the Xinjiang group didn’t know why the people were afraid, nor of what, they ran too thinking there was a danger they did not know about.
