Real Estate Company ‘Makes it Rain’, About 100,000 RMB Worth

A real estate company in Xinyang, Henan Province caused havoc yesterday when they decided to ‘make it rain.’ If you’re unfamiliar with this term then basically it means to spend a lot of money, especially in front of people as a way to impress them. This particular agency took the saying a little too literally and actually made it rain money when they threw wads of cash from the window of their second floor office.

Unsurprisingly news of the gift from the sky spread quickly and the crowd of money grabbers grew quickly, inevitably leading to a traffic jam and some people getting hurt. The police eventually arrived on the scene and dispersed the crowd, but not before the real estate company and thrown upwards of 100,000 RMB in cash out the window. Some of the luckier people made away with around 3,000 RMB in cold, hard, presumably now crumpled, cash.

The local People’s Bank of Xinyang said that this type of act is illegal and that the police should take action. No report has yet been released over whether they will or not. We can’t imagine this kind of advertising spreading too much.

No, 'making it rain' describes generously distributing cash to naked or near-naked young ladies. This is simply throwing money away.

Its less expensive and just as much fun to tape a 100RMB note on the inside of a window on busy street.

This is the second "silly money" story regarding real estate companies in Henan which has hit the news in recent weeks. Another firm in Zhengzhou held a press conference to show off how much it was giving its staff in bonuses - which in some cases topped two million a time. Call me crazy, but I don't think it's a good idea to be doing this sort of thing given which way the political wind is blowing. Waving your wad around just as an anti-corruption drive is getting started is like putting on a bambi costume and going into the woods with Dick Cheyney.
