Shenzhen’s Metro to Run 24 Hours a Day This Holiday Season

Shenzhen’s public transport authority is, this holiday season, catering for their passengers like never before. On Christmas Eve, New Year’s day and all of Spring Festival, the metro will operate for 24 hours a day.

The official days are as follows:
December 24
January 1
January 31 to February 5

This unprecedented move is sure to go down well with the locals. How long until China’s other first tier cities follow suit?

What the metro really needs to do is listed below: 1. Stop closing down the metro trains so early in the evening, this is very unfair and appears like a public control action to force people to go home early. 2. Consider the right of the tax paying public to have a metro system that runs at least till two o'clock in the morning and longer on weekends. 3. Stop limiting the number of train carriages and causing overcrowding on trains. It is not unusual to see limited numbers of carriages provided and people forced to pack into trains like fish in a barrel. If the train crashes this will cause terrible loss of life. 4. Metro stop acting like it is a big treat that once year you allow people to travel home later at night during a holiday season via the metro system. You are meant to provide such a service all year around.
