Jilin to Ban Bras During Gaokao Exams

Jilin to Ban Bras During Gaokao Exams
Jun 07, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Ahh, the Gaokao. Famous for its emotional breakdowns, stress-related suicides…and now this.

Schools in Jilin province are banning the wearing of bras in exam halls this year, and are installing metal detectors in the entrance to the halls. The education authorities claim that they are trying to crack down on students who may try and smuggle devices into exams to cheat.

A letter sent to candidates explaining the policy stated, “When students enter the exam venue they will have their clothes, accessories, shoes, hats and any carry-ins strictly checked by professionals.”

Interestingly, Xinhua have reported that girls who have metallic implants are eligible to enter as long as they provide a letter of proof from a doctor.

Netizens have joked at the move, with one user quipping, “I think this will affect the performance of the boys.” Given recent news however, we’re more inclined to believe it will affect the behavior of the teachers.

What's next - a ban on eyeglasses, because they might be a Chinese version of Google glass? A ban on any garment with more than one color, because answers might be incorporated into color patterns? A ban on shoes, socks, underwear and belts, because who knows what answers could be hidden there? This begs for some reductio ad absurdum.

I guess they are banning bras because the female students have been keeping abreast of the latest cheating trends. Boys don't cheat!

How do people use brace teeth to cheat in exam hall? This is one thing I might learn from Chinese people.
