Female With PhD Goes on 19 Dates, All the Men Are Put Off by Her Accompanying Mother
Jan 01, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A woman in Wuhan, Miss Wu, has been having a little trouble with her love life of late. In the past 6 months she has been on 19 dates without being asked for a second date by any of the many. Naturally, Miss Wu was perturbed by this trend and couldn’t figure out what she was doing wrong. Maybe it’s the fact that her mother went on all the dates with her. Yup, that would explain it.

Miss Wu was originally stumped as to why she, a PhD graduate with a good economic standing, couldn’t find a man to stick around past a first meeting. She says that she brings her mother along on dates so that she feels more comfortable and for her approval. Apparently Miss WU has now given up on love for the moment and will focus on her career.
Imagine being set up on a blind date, only to find that the girl’s mother is sitting there too, ready to watch the two of you eat, and maybe flirt a little.

I wonder what would happen if this woman took a guy home to bed? Would the mother watch and give approval of the man's penis size?

Well, at least she is not pulling anyone's leg.....What you see is what you get ! If anyone agrees to marry this lady, he sure will be seeing a lot of her mom near his bedside....And he couldn't say there weren't any early warning signs :)))

The article didn't say who she was dating - westerners or Chinese? If the former, NFW. I don't know of any western culture where a grown woman bringing her mother along on a first date wouldn't be an immediate relationship-killer. What if it was a relationship coach? Same answer. How about a friend? If for moral support, still no. If the friend was there for a possible 3-way (as a few suggested might be the mother's motive) - she'd have dates every night if that was the case!

Motherly supervision at age 12 is ok, but late 20's and mid 30's is taking it to extremes. Reminds me of my ex-girlfriend that even in her mid-3os did nothing without her mother's approval first. Moms need to cut the umbilical cord way before graduating with a Phd.

Precisely mate. There has been more than a few occasions where I've been asked out but I always find myself reluctant to go out and when I do actually make an exception to the rule, I find GROWN WOMEN telling me that they are notifying their parents (mum or dad) that they are meeting me.... too strange... too much... completely removes me from the equation. Control is not CULTURE and Tracking is not TRADITION is my book.

Sad indeed. A pseudo-educated woman, yet completely dependent. She's barely functional without her mother. This is a handicap. If I were her employer, I would see this as a warning sign, a tell-tale sign of her actual capabilities as an employee. I would rather date a woman with a wooden leg!

Unbelievable! Does her farmer mother go to the toilet with her as well? Miss Wu is a bloody idiot.

It's common in traditional China for parents to get involved in arranging a marriage by negotiating with potential partner's parents before they even meet on dating terms. It's considered socialy acceptable. My wife insists that I tell people "my uncle contacted her parents and introduced us, and we first met in China", because the embarassment of saying we met over the internet is too great. Sometimes it makes me feel China has a shamelessly institutionalized coward's culture. The owner of the housing company that handled our mortgage also asked me (through my wife) to introduce her to a foreign guy, and wouldn't accept no for an answer. The few guys I approached about it wouldn't go anywhere near such a 'desperate' woman, though she is a successful & wealthy businesswoman with 2 sons. She's learning proper English and going on dating sites now, but it took a hell of a lot of persuasion to convince her this was an acceptable way to meet people.
