For this poor family, after 9 km in an ambulance, it was their wallets that were hurting.
The family that received this fairly unpleasant bill had called an ambulance at 23:00 for their grandmother, who had cerebral thrombosis. Fifteen minutes later the ambulance arrived with a driver, a nurse, a doctor and two stretcher bearers, did an electrocardiogram in the ambulance and took her to the hospital, only 9 km away. They then received a bill of 1670 RMB.
Appalled by the high cost, the family took to Weibo, and posted a picture of the bill saying that usually this treatment would cost a few RMB, and explaining that they didn’t understand how the ambulance could be so pricey.
Shenyang officials at the emergency centre were less than sympathetic to their plight, saying, yes that is how much it cost and it could have been more. Are you unsurprised or as shocked as this family?

Actually this would have been much more in the West (of Europe), maybe 5 times as much. But this family seems to think it 'usually' is much cheaper. Now why would they think that? Btw, we would have an insurance that covers the costs so we wouldn't worry at all, and of course that is one of the things that's lacking here.

I don't know, we have to never pay for ambulance back home, insurance is in place. I never saw a single invoice, so can not even guess how much can be the cost. just once, where I did not pay insurance in time and have to repay back to company, but nothing else. lucky me.
