Foreigner Had 220,000 RMB Stolen From Bank Account

Being pick pocketed is always a possibility, wherever you are, but for many of us living in China, we are hyper-concerned. Most of us, however, don’t live in fear of having our bank accounts “pick pocketed”. Though, perhaps we should. One poor foreigner had 220, 000 RMB stolen from his bank account over night. Now that is some sly finger work.

The man recalls, that on October 15 he tried to use his card to pay for something that was 240 RMB, but his card was declined. Confused, considering he had recently deposited 220,000 RMB, he checked his balance. Nada!

When he went to the police to report it, they saw that within 24 hours of him depositing all that money in a Shenzhen bank, it had gone missing. According to the article, a criminal gang did it, but it is unclear where this information came from; Police still are investigating the case. Good news for the man, the transaction has been classified as “unauthorized,” so he should hopefully get the money back soon.

I think we can all agree that that must have been one sucky day! So remember folks, your money is safe…no where!!

I don't trust any Chinese banks. If I had alot of money I will transfer it to my country, put it in a ISA account or something.I remember I transfered some money from my country to China and they STOLE some of it then blamed a bank in Germany for the missing money. When I ask to speak to the manager they refused. Most probaly it was someone in the bank.

I really dont understand how this has happened. Very sketchy indeed. Did the guy have online banking and his account hacked or was his card skimmed. Im sure bank has to pay this as it seems that the man isnt at fault unless there is more to this story than what is written above.

yep. being that the law states that the banks must do everything to protect the money that they have in their charge, it is really just an inconvenience for the person. If anyone's money is misplaced in a bank, make sure you get it all back, along with an apology. Banks are insured up the wazoo so it really is the insurance company losing out. Poor insurance company.
