“How much do I love thee?” For some people, this is an amount that can be determined by the number of roses given or the number of kisses stolen. For Liu Ru, however, this amount can be surmised by the number 40 – as in 40 kg; the amount of weight he was willing to add to his frame in order to achieve a harmonious balance with his 140 kg wife, Chang Qinghua from Jiaozuo, Henan Province. Now both partners can share a more equal risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Liu had secretly made a decision to gain weight after the two were married on June 28, 2013 because they aren’t a couple that shares everything until they both have the same physique.

Three months after they were married, Liu went from a weight of 63 kg to 81 kg. Liu reportedly told Chang, "Girl, my ambition is to put on weight so that you and I can both look better suited to each other."

Apparently, it wasn’t pressure from their families either. While the couple enjoyed a happy ending together, both sets of parents initially objected to the union; a proposal that Liu made to Chang just four dates after the two had their first dinner together. On the tenth day of dating, Liu’s father criticized Chang on her weight by saying, "Her weight is twice that of my son and, as such, she is an unfit girlfriend." Conversely, when Liu was brought to meet Chang's parents, Chang's mother had complained that he was too short and slim. However, both sets of parents gave their blessing after it was apparent that the couple were truly in love with each other.

Chang did her part to try to match her husband. She went on crash diets with poor results; Chang lost 5 kg, but suffered from poor health as a result.

And so it is for no other reason, besides love, that Liu gained weight to serve as a “more perfect” match for his bride. Because true love is unconditional; the same way that the best fat is unsaturated.

I guess, if you can't beat her, then join her. I am a nurse and know the benefits of being healthy, the numerous disadvantages of being a fatty, I guess that for these two, love is truly blind. Till death do they part...and that will be sooner than their peers.

Blind application of the "don't change him/her, change yourself" relationship guideline is another one of those recipes for disaster.

Typical Chinese thinking. option A, be her partner in eating healthy and exercising. Option B, be her partner in being a fat, unhealthy, slob.

If my weight was nearing the same as my height, in kg and cm, I would think something was a bit off. As humans we are not meant to be square.... I hate to think how this woman can live. get from place to place. Moving her arm to eat but clearly she can. breath. Literally killing themselves in a barrel of stupidity.... Hopefully they die young and quickly, so others don't have to spend millions keeping them alive because that is what it will take.
