Long given the online nickname of “Big Underpants”, the new location of the CCTV Tower has earned itself a more respectable title by being awarded the “Best Tall Building Worldwide” by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
The prestigious award was announced by the council on the evening of November 7 in Chicago, USA. The CCTV tower started out as a design by a famous Dutch architectural office and required eight years to complete; it now stands as the largest single-standing steel structure throughout all of China.
