New Rules Aim to Improve Taxi Service in China
Oct 15, 2013 By eChinacities.com

A new set of rules pertaining to the scope of taxi service in China were announced by the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the National Standards Committee on October 13.

According to the new rules, taxi drivers in China can no longer ask potential customers where they want to go before getting into the car; they are not permitted to take longer routes, and they must ask the customer for permission when they change routes due to congestion or temporary road closures.

In addition, all complaints by customers must be handled by the taxi company within 24 hours and must be rectified within ten days; the company must also notify the complaining customer when the case has concluded. Finally, two thirds of the car trunk must be available for passengers to place their suitcases and carry-on items.

How naive I am! I thought those were the rules already! We could use some more rules. -Taxi drivers are not allowed not to use the meter, and -Taxi drivers are not allowed to charge two customers for the same trajectory without the permission of the first and giving him/her a discount. (Negotiate the last one, sometimes it works without too much of a discussion).

As if they are going to be able to or willing to enforce it. Again, bright ideas that are made to look like China is getting a grip on anti-social or environmental problems that will never be enforced.
