You know public opinion towards China’s Chengguan (urban management team) has dipped to an all time low when they are forced to wear stab-proof vests for protection.
On August 20, in what looked like a military drill, over 100 Chengguan in 15 vans pulled up at around ten hot spots for illegal vendors in Guangzhou, including Yuntai Gardens and Baiyun Mountain and Feixiang Park.
Over 100 Chengguan wore stab-proof vests to protect against violent protestors, and many others were seen wearing riot helmets. For many though, the heat in the vests and helmets was too much to take so many opted to stay inside the air conditioned vehicles. One Chengguan on site stated that such vests and helmets are necessary given the dangers they face, and that they also have the advantage of intimidating vendors and thereby reducing the likelihood of violent outbreaks.

Stab-proof they may be, but what about bulletproof? Well, as long as they stay inside their airconditioned vehicles they won't bother anyone.

You how else they can reduce the danger of being stabbed or beaten by protestors? Don't be uniformed thugs that inspire so much hatred in the public that they want to stab or beat you.
