Further examples of regional prejudices in China emerged at Guangzhou’s Baiyun Airport recently, as a video showing a Shandong woman ranting against locals at the airport recently went viral.
Annoyed by a delayed flight (it must have been her first time on a plane in China), the women embarked on a tirade against airport staff and passersby, calling Guangdong people “disgusting” and boasting that her father was a national-level government official.
Here’s a few gems she spurted out:
“If anything happens to me, you Guangdong people will have to change your mayor.”
“We Shandong people have so many superstars among us. I’m a minor celebrity myself.”
“If anybody tries to mess with me, I could have the internet shut down.”
After she continued ranting all the way to the plane door, security eventually subdued her and took her away as she went kicking and screaming into the distance.
The full translation of her rant as well as the video, which comes via The Nanfang, can be seen here.
