State media have reported that former Party Chief of Chongqing Bo Xilai has been indicted on charges of bribery, corruption and abuse of power. The indictment paper was delivered to the Jinan City Intermediate People's Court on July 25.

Bo reportedly took advantage of his position to accept “an extremely large amount” of money and properties, and has also been charged with embezzling public funds.

The charges follow one of the biggest political scandals to hit China in recent years, which relates back to the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood last year. Following investigations into the murder, Bo’s wife, Gu Kailai was given a suspended death sentence.

No trial date has been announced yet, though there is speculation that it may begin next month.
