Traffic police in Hubei have had to give a mother and father a “serious warning” after they caught them allowing their four-year-old son to take the wheel of a truck on a highway.

The incident was picked up on CCTV on July 11 at around 21:00 on a stretch of road near Jingmen City. The truck, which had an Anhui Province licence plate, was said to have a child with a “very concentrated expression” sitting in the driver’s seat.

After the parents were tracked down, the father of the child and truck owner Zhu stated that the boy, who was with his parents on a trip to Chengdu, had been crying for an awfully long time, so they thought it best to put him behind the wheel and see what happens. With both the parents encouraging him with rounds of “drive the car! Go on, you can do it!” The kid immediately shut up and focused his attention on the road ahead.

Police only gave Zhu a warning for letting his child take control of the truck, and Zhu later expressed his regret over the act.

This is exactly why I stopped working with kids in China. In this country, no social behavior is too tacky, no action too stupid, the potential cost to other human beings never too much, when it comes to pampering your brat.

Probably a better driver than dad anyway. I can't see cell phone up to his ear and he IS concentrating!
