Belly Bonanza: Wuhan Park Hands Out Free T-Shirts to Topless Male Tourists

Wuhan – one of China’s “Three Furnaces” (along with Chongqing and Nanjing) – is currently in its hottest period, with frequent temperatures in the mid-late 30s. As a result, although this phenomenon is certainly not unique to Wuhan, local men often roll their shirts exposing their bellies or better still – take them off all together.

In the Mulan Heaven Pool Scenic Area however, many female visitors have voiced their complaints to workers at the park regarding the endless seas of bare-bellied men that stroll around the area.

To tackle this, guards from the park have begun handing out free t-shirts to any man who is spotted topless. The stylish t-shirts feature the words (in Chinese) “Mulan Heaven Pool (木兰天池)” printed on the front, and in ten days since the policy was introduced, over 50 t-shirts have been handed out.

The policy has been described by some Chinese news websites as a “masterstroke”, though we feel that the prospect of free t-shirts may end up attracting even more topless men to the area rather than encouraging them to cover themselves up.

They would probably do better to have 'shirt required' signage and mandatory shirt tax or eviction to those breaking the rule.
