How would you feel if after years of being with your partner, you discovered via a TV program that they were cheating on you? That’s exactly what happened when a woman from Guangzhou revealed that after watching popular Saturday night dating show “1 Million Brides” (百万新娘) she saw her long-term boyfriend confess his love to a woman on the show.
Qie Guo and her boyfriend He Jian had been together for many years. Qie would often ensure that all the housework between the two was taken care of, and paid for all of He’s needs. She even bought him an iPhone 5 and gave him 400 RMB a month to play with.
When Qie learned from a friend that He was on TV with another woman she was shocked, especially as He had told her he was heading to Vietnam on a business trip. Qie then immediately phoned He, who unsurprisingly didn’t answer his phone. It was later that Qie received a heartbreaking text message from He which said that he had found someone else and wanted to break up.
After watching the show online, Qie expressed that she didn’t want to take revenge on He, and was instead determined to find help from others in order to win him back. Qie went on a mission to get help by posting notes detailing her story around her neighbourhood.
Crushingly for Qie however, a reporter got in touch with He Jian and his new lover Zheng Jiawen, whose affections for each other seemed to be pretty solid. Zheng expressed no feeling of remorse towards Qie, and even condemned Qie by saying that the 400 RMB a month she gave He “wasn’t even enough to buy water.”
