A video leaked on the internet depicting a Beijing tour guide forcing tourists to buy souvenirs at knife-point, has caused widespread concern.

The netizen who uploaded the video claimed that the incident happened on a tour bus travelling from Beijing to the Badaling section of the Great Wall and the Ming Tombs on July 3. When the tourists on board did not buy enough souvenirs, the bus driver refused to open the doors and the guide proceeded to shout abuse at the passengers and even wielded a knife shouting, “I’m going to kill you.”

On July 8, the Beijing Tourism Committee responded to the incident, stating the bus registration number was not that of a legal tour bus operator. Police are currently processing the case.
