Shanghai Looking to Increase Subway Prices During Rush Hour

Shanghai Looking to Increase Subway Prices During Rush Hour
Jul 05, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Currently, Shanghai Rail and Traffic Management are discussing revising a draft of regulations which could see the price of the subway become fixed during peak and off-peak commuting periods. The suggestion comes as a way to encourage people to travel to work before the rush hour, as subway prices during this time would be increased. The system is currently used in subways in cities such as London, Paris and New York.

Discussion regarding this change are still underway, and there has been no news regarding if or when the plan will be implemented.

Article says " The suggestion comes as a way to encourage people to travel to work before the rush hour" like working to death is not an issue. In the west the idea is to encourage non-commuters (shopper/grandma) to travel off peak.
