Changchun Turtle Becomes “Accidently” Addicted to Smoking; Now Puffs 10 a Day

In a village on the outskirts of Changchun lives a turtle that is addicted to smoking. That’s right, you didn’t read wrong. Local chef Tang confirmed that about a month ago the turtle “accidently learned” to smoke, and now can’t control itself. Hmm. Apparently, the turtle smokes around ten cigarettes a day, and gets restless if it doesn’t.

So how did it learn? Well, Tang stated that not too long ago the turtle, which belongs to a rare breed of snapping turtle from North and Central America, started making a low groaning sound and started to show a dislike towards its usual diet of fish. What supposedly happened next just couldn’t be thought of by the most abstract of thinkers. Tang, worried that it was sick, decided to pick it up, and found that a small toothpick-shaped chicken bone was stuck in the turtle’s belly. When Tang tried to pull it out, the turtle lashed out in pain and tried to bite Tang’s fingers. It was then that a cigarette, which was rested in Tang’s mouth, fell out into the turtle’s out mouth as Tang tried to shuffle away from the angry turtle. The turtle’s mouth then snapped shut and began to puff away.

The next day, Tang sat on a chair near the turtle and lit up a cigarette after a hard day’s work. The turtle then crawled up to him, and being the responsible turtle-keeper that he was, lit up a cigarette for the turtle too. Now, every time Tang has a smoke he’ll give his turtle one too, and the two frequently enjoy a smoke together while taking a break from their daily toils. Tang says that whenever he smokes the turtle crawls up to him and makes a hissing sound, and won’t go away until its nicotine habit is cared for.

Perhaps feeling a little guilty about his giving in to the narcotic demands of a slow-moving amphibian, Tang states that he wished someone could help him make the turtle quit.
