Excitement to see Beckham Causes Stampede at Jinan University
Jun 20, 2013 By eChinacities.com

We all know that David Beckham is freakishly popular in China, but a crowd of fans at Jinan University may have let their excitement get a little too out of control on June 20. According to reports, Beckham was scheduled to participate in a friendship event with the Jinan University football team at 2pm. However, as Beckham entered the Jinan University Stadium, fans went berserk and stormed towards the main entrance where Beckham was standing behind an iron gate.

Security eventually opened the gate to let Beckham into the field but fans began pushing and shoving to get a glimpse of their football hero. Police and security initially formed a human shield but it wasn’t enough to hold back the crazy-eyed fans. It was then that a stampede occurred.

The full details remain a little murky but Beckham, who was obviously freaked out, cancelled the event and left.
