Foreigner Cheats Qingdao Phone Seller with Fake 800 USD

Foreigner Cheats Qingdao Phone Seller with Fake 800 USD
Jun 19, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Mr Liu, who lives in Chengyang District, Qingdao, is the proud owner of a mobile phone shop. However at around 17:00 on June 17, he was cheated by a foreigner who used 800 USD of fake cash to purchase an iPhone.

When the foreigner made his choice regarding what phone he wanted, the pair, not knowing each others’ languages, used a trusty calculator to bargain. When the price was agreed, the foreigner took out his wallet, though Liu noticed that he only had one 100 RMB note, with the rest being US dollars. After calculating the exchange rates, Liu agreed to accept an amount of 800 USD. Liu knew that this was a little less than previously agreed, though by this point it was nearly clock-out time and he just wanted to go home.

However, as Liu was unfamiliar with the sight of US dollars, he did insist that he and the foreigner go to the nearby bank to make sure the cash was real. The bank declared that the money was real, and the pair then returned to Liu’s shop where the deal was completed.

Early the next morning, Liu took his newly acquired wad of US cash to the bank to change into RMB. Unexpectedly, Liu was then told that the cash was fake. Despite his utter disbelief, Liu came to the conclusion that the cash shown to the bank the day before was real, though somehow the foreigner had managed to switch the cash around and give Liu bills which were in fact fake. Liu recalled that the foreigner was carrying a nylon bag, and assumed that the fake cash he received came from there rather than the foreigner’s wallet.

Qingdao police are currently investigating the case.

We are just turning round and round. When somebody steals ,we unleash our ego defense mechanism, and look for all kinds of fanciful excuses to even up. It's very normal for a foreigner to carry around fake bank notes in plastic bags because Chinese people have been ripping them off. That is what some neurotic individuals would want to push down our throats. Why not just accept you have become a thief in an unfamiliar milieu? Since Chinese do drugs, let's wait when a foreigner is caught with some,we will remind the Chinese of this fact. Times have changed, nobody is going to live in denial any longer. We must know where we are coming from. The emphasis on foreigners stealing in China has to do with the rosy picture people in this country have of them. Everyone seems to be surprised at the sudden change of events, where foreigners repeatedly do things with comedic proportions in China. We must have a debate about the sudden deterioration of values from people who are supposed to know better. This has nothing to do with racism. It has to do with holding people responsible for their actions. People literally skin Chinese for their behavior, but when it comes to holding the feet of wayward foreigners to fire, some psychopath starts rambling about racism.

Very ironic considering all of the fake crap I've paid for in China with real money.

When another foreigner will be caught with drugs,I hope we don't say Chinese do drugs too. I'm saying this because when it comes to drugs , politically correct foreigners start jumping out of the boat, and drawing the blanket to their side. Seems time has finally come when the ugly side of human nature can no longer be concealed, be you a turtle or a jaguar.

Yes, because no Chinese person has ever used drugs before (Opium). And no Chinese person is involved with drugs (trafficking through Dali in Yunnan). And no Chinese person has ever had to effects of drugs (HIV highest in Xinjiang and Yunnan due to the heroin trafficking). Firefighter, you are one of the biggest racists I have ever seen post here. Please don't have children and if you do, please put them up for adoption. The Chinese version of Archie Bunker isn't funny.

I have no complaints. Chinese people attempt to rip off foreigners all the time by overcharging, lying about bills and refusing to bargain for prices honestly. This time, it happened to a Chinese person. I can eek out no tears.

This is funny. A win to the foreigners. Although it hardly makes up for the thousands of foreigners being ripped off here on a daily basis.

While I don't condone it we read enough about how us foreigners are seen as a rich target for overcharging and "special" rules. Seems the shoe is suddenly on the other foot. I hope the guy gets caught and I'm sure that in this case the police will make every effort to catch the thief......unlike in other instances when it might be a foreigner that complains of being cheated. I doubt that this crook is 'one of us' as his modus operandi reads as being rather professional. Then again who knows what the truth is?

Common Dave. It is one person. If this make Chinese hate you then by all means, go mental on them but just make sure they know of what happened at the same time. Dolphin killers was recent and you can always hark back to the Chinese holocaust created by its own people. They love a bit of it.
