On June 17, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security and five other departments announced that there is now a strict ban on the private adoptions of abandoned babies by individuals and companies.

The new ruling requires citizens to inform the police and residential committees should they come across an abandoned child. Should adults wish to adopt abandoned babies, they should adhere to the adoption laws of China and fulfill all the necessary legal requirements.

Those who do not adhere to the new ban shall be investigated according to law.
