Chinese Man Sentenced to 12 Years in US Prison for 100 Million USD Piracy Crimes

According to various Western media outlets, a Chinese national named Li Xiang was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Jun 11 after he was found guilty of taking part in a 100 million USD international piracy operation.

Li, 36, from Chengdu, sold more than 500 pirated software works to over three buyers in 61 countries from April 2008 to June 2011. It was found that some of the buyers were even previous NASA employees. According to court documents, Li sold software of almost 200 companies such as Microsoft, Oracle and Siemens for less than 5% of the original price.

Li pleaded guilty during his trial and will be deported when he is released from prison.
