Shanghai Has 67,000 Registered Drug Addicts; Yearly Increase of 10%

On June 3, the Shanghai City Narcotics Control Commission stated during a press conference that there were currently 67,000 registered drug addicts in the city. It was revealed that 44,000 of these were local Shanghai citizens. In the past five years, the number of registered drug addicts in Shanghai has increased by around 10% every year.

In 2012, there were a total of 3,080 drug-related cases in the city. In this year alone (up until May 20), there have been a total of 1,536 drug-related cases which saw the confiscation of around 350kg and the arrest of 1,698 people involved.
