Girl Finds Bird Nest in the Pants She Hung Out to Dry

Is that a bird’s nest in your pants, or are you just happy to see me? That’s one Bird’s Nest Soup I’d be willing to try… This story is ripe for awful puns. Anyway, file this under the “Why is this considered newsworthy?” category—though it’s fair game to report here, as it’s Weird News after all (and they can’t all be about polluted rivers)!

On the morning of May 13, Gao Shuang, a freshman female student at the Zhengzhou College of Liberal Arts was hanging out in her dorm room before class, when suddenly two sparrows flew into her room’s balcony area and landed on the clothing line that a pair of her jeans was hanging on. Startled by the abrupt entrance, Gao went to swat away the birds before they soiled her pants. But what she found in her pants when she got there shocked her even more—an entire bird nest made out of dried mud and grass had been constructed inside! Gross!

Just as she was about to shake the filthy nest out of her pants, she noticed two baby sparrows were nestled in it. Instead of committing the bird equivalent of infanticide, Gao hung the pants back on the clothing line and backed away.  She then posted a photo of the trouser-nest on her Weibo account, which netizens got a huge kick out of, forwarding the message 20,000 times and commenting on it 6,000 times.

Several hours later, her roommate returned home, and they decided to place the baby birds and the nest in a wastebasket while the parents were gone.
