The things we do to entertain ourselves.

The things we do to entertain ourselves.

Well the time has certainly flown past this last few weeks, and the culture shock seems to have gone quite quickly. I wonder sometimes how long it takes for other people to adjust to life in "The great red sea" when boredom starts to creep in.

Last night I witnessed for the first time and first hand the devastation that is a "KTV" bar. "Where are all the women?" I thought to myself as I walked through the door with my new found friends. Perhaps I was just unlucky to go to one of the only bars where women don't frequent. But then I soon found out the real answer.

"Heeeeeeey JWUUUUUDE, don't mak it baaaaaaaaaard" the sound not too disimilar to that of a cat being grabbed by the jewels and twirled around to amusement of these dementedly sick people is what I heard (mistakes made were on purpose). Our group although not too large was then shown a private room at the back where we ouurselves could happily destroy many songs from eras unknown, and that we did.

But what surprised me more was just how much our minds had warped from our time here in China. Ok so I have been here the shortest period of time compared to the rest of the people in the the group, but that did not stop me from joining in or even creating my own twisted antics as the night rolled on. I thought debauchery was something with which we used to entertain ourselves in our native countries. Of course that was a silly idealistic thing to believe. As things got louder in our private little room, there was suddenly an errr of silence as next on the large screen that befronted us was a woman in red latex doing a rather sultry pole dance right before our very eyes. The silence was short lived to the uproar of "BOOOOOBS" and cheers of happieness as this would be one of the few times during our time here that we would be privy to things like that. It certainly beats the ripple in the water.

I am not a sexist by the way, but I would just like to point our that I do enjoy a more fuller figure. Curves are essential to and womans body and the whole fascination with being skinny (and white) should not be taken quite so literally as it is not healthy for the mind.

I love it here in China, I look forward to meeting more like minded people, both foreign and native to the land. I want to see the sights, but I worry just how far our sick little minds will take some of us. Will we get worse as time goes on. Is it accpeted by the Chinese as "just another foreigner having a good time", the laws are different here we must remember. But I can truly say that that for now I am going to take in as much as I can, enjoy the experience and try to keep my nose clean so to speak as much as possible.

Needless to say, I think it will be a cold day in hell before I ever enter a KTV bar again.
