29 year-old Xiao Hui (man) works in a property company in Chengdu, and met Xiao Hong (woman) online in April last year. After the pair bonded over a mutual love of the great outdoors, they ended up moving in with each other at the end of that month.
However, things weren’t too rosy, as Xiao Hong became the victim of Xiao Hui’s domestic abuses, which occurred on almost a daily basis, leading her to consider breaking up. However, being the complete megalomaniac that he is, Xiao Hui made sure that Xiao Hong’s phone, ID card, and money were all hidden so she had no chance to run or even contact anyone.
At the end of July 2012, Xiao Hui discovered that Xiao Hong was cheating on him and proceeded to beat her, after which he locked hers in a room to “self-reflect”. After the incident, Xiao Hui went online and bought a pair of chastity underwear, which he forced Xiao Hong to wear when it arrived on August 17.
Every time Xiao Hui came home from work, her boyfriend would immediately check to see if she was still wearing the underwear. In fear of being beaten yet again, Xiao Hong went along with it. When Xiao Hong got home from work in the early hours of August 23, Xiao Hui saw what looked to be the evidence of an attempted break in of the underwear, which led him to jump to the conclusion that she was being unfaithful yet again.
Following an argument the next day, Xiao Hui tied his girlfriend’s hands and legs up at home as he left for work. Helpless in her situation, Xiao Hong managed to write a letter for help on a scrap of paper, and threw it out of a nearby window. Luckily, the note found its way to the police, who, after hearing Xiao Hong’s harrowing tale, arrested Xiao Hui when he came home from work that night.
Recently, Xiao Hui was (only) sentenced to seven months imprisonment by a Chengdu court for unlawful imprisonment.
