The phrase “dirt cheap” has never sounded so relevant.

Xinhua reported on May 7 that a Guangzhou second-hand clothes market was selling clothes that were reportedly taken from nearby garbage dumps and even mortuaries. Unsurprisingly, the clothes are in fact “dirt cheap”, with one customer purchasing a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and some shoes for 20 RMB. The market is also becoming popular with foreigners.

Despite some clothes smelling bad and even having blood stains on them, bargain hunters have continued to flood to the market. Fresh!

i used to love second hand stores back in the 90s. Only place to get old suits and old styles. Now they are over run by hipsters. Those guys ruin everything

In America, we have organizations like Goodwill and Salvation Army that take used clothes and items. The items are then cleaned and determined if they can be resold to the public at a massive discount. The secondary purpose is to give these items to poor families for free. At first glance I was disturbed by this article but forgot such a logistical management does not exist in China yet. Clearly the government is not moving fast enough, and the people are taking action into their own hands.
