Have You Got What it Takes? 5 Year Visas for “Talented” Foreigners Coming in July
May 06, 2013 By eChinacities.com

A draft was released on May 3 by the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council detailing plans for new “R1” and “R2” visas for “talented” foreigners. Liu Guofu, an immigration specialist from the Beijing Institute of Technology, stated that the R1 visa would allow foreigners to apply for five-year residence permits in China, while the R2 visa would allow foreign professionals to stay in the country for 180 days at a time.

The new visas will go into effect in July, and will be issued to foreigners “that China urgently needs…” Liu went on to (slightly) clarify that the visas will be applicable for proven specialists in the fields of management, education, science, culture, and sport.

Although there has been no confirmation, the Ministry of Public Security have reportedly been drafting up a “Green Card” that might be applicable for foreigners who have worked in China for 10 consecutive years.

It's kind of ironic that the Chinese government makes it pretty difficult to immigrate to China, when most of its citizens want nothing more than to emigrate.
