Jiangsu School Criticized for Contentious Teacher Pregnancy Permission Policy

Jiangsu School Criticized for Contentious Teacher Pregnancy Permission Policy
Apr 26, 2013 By eChinacities.com

During the evening of April 22, a post appeared on an online forum for Gaoyou City, Jiangsu Province, exposing the local Number Two Middle School’s new “family planning“ regulations for female teachers.

Heated discussion brewed online as the policy stated, “Women who are planning to get pregnant must apply for the right to do so with the Principal at least one semester in advance.”

One employee from the school office responded by saying that the “policy was still being discussed, and hadn’t yet been put into action.”

Redeeming comments? Not likely. The employee then went on to say, “Women account for around 60 percent of the workforce in the school. When they get pregnant it affects the workings of the school. They must inform the school should they wish to get pregnant.”

The Gaoyu education authorities soon stepped in to resolve the matter however, and stopped the school from passing the ruling.

Gee I misread that at first. I thought they said: Women who are planning to get pregnant must do so with the principal! Sorry, it's all clear to me now. Damn good idea too. How dare you get pregnant without permission. Next thing you know these teachers will be asking for a pay rise or not wanting to work weekends to make up for mid week public holidays.
