Students in China seem to be getting more and more business-minded these days, with the story of another student who hit the big time during his studies making headlines recently.

About a year ago, management student Hu Weibin founded a small company in Wuhan. In the time since, it's netted him a cool million RMB, though at the cost of him failing nine courses and not being able graduate on time. Yet, despite these academic setbacks, Hu says that his business pursuits were “worth it”.

Hailing from Tai’an in Shandong, Hu came from a humble background to attend university in Wuhan. Hu started his business in October 2012, providing water to students in their university dormitories. Over time, the business grew to provide food, other drinks, as well as everyday goods, and Hu eventually hired on a 30-man team, which earned a combined salary of 100,000 RMB each month.

Impressively, after just half a year, Hu’s company has already grossed 1 million RMB. Hu stated, “When I started out, no one really knew what I was doing, and didn’t see the point of missing so many lessons to make a bit of money. Now that my classmates are starting to graduate, many who were looking for jobs have actually ended up working for me.”

One of Hu’s employees, Jiang Yao, stated, “I’ve always believed that for students, business education is paramount. Once you’ve nailed that, then you can start thinking about other ways to develop your skills.” Student Zhou Haojie added, “If students show a natural flare for business and entrepreneurship, then there really is no need to bother learning any other skills at school.”
