In a report regarding the performance evaluation of air quality control in Chinese cities released on March 28, Renmin University’s School of Environmental Studies and other bodies revealed that only 10.67% of cities in China had “good air quality.”

The report also stated that 75.80% had “poor air quality” whilst 13.52% had “very poor air quality.” 46.02% percent of citizens were also revealed to be dissatisfied with the situation of their cities’ air quality.

Cities with “good air quality” were said to be those with lower economic development than others, while industrial cities with central heating systems were shown to have “poor air quality”. Cities with “very poor air quality” were often cities that had both central heating systems and were experiencing high economic development.
