A map devised by charity workers showing 200 of China’s so-called “cancer villages” across the country was recently removed from the internet. On March 7, experts from the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association said that these cancer villages were mostly located in economically developed areas in central eastern parts of the country, adding that they experienced many different types of pollution, especially water pollution.

The experts also stated that lung cancer is the leading type of cancer for urban residents, which has a direct link to air pollution. For rural residents, cancers of the digestive system are most common, such as gastric cancer and colorectal cancer, with nutrition, diet, and water pollution being the main causes.
