Dead Pigs in Huangpu River Reach 7,545; Worry of Water Safety Grows

On March 14, officials confirmed that another 944 pig corpses were retrieved from the Huangpu River, bringing the total number of dead pigs to 7,545. Spokesman for the Shanghai government Xu Wei, stated that efforts to monitor water quality have been stepped up and that no pollution has been detected in the upstream part of the Huangpu River so far. However, six water intakes and nine water plants are being closely monitored for potential pollution and efforts have also been stepped up to inspect the pork sold at wet markets, supermarkets and butchers.

According to official statements, the city’s hygiene, agriculture, environment and water affairs departments have confirmed that tests carried out at water intakes and plants have tested negative for six types of viruses and five types of bacteria. Furthermore, the Department of Water Affairs has also stated that efforts will be stepped to disinfect water in order to guarantee a safe drinking water supply.

I just can't sustain the idea of drinking water that soaked rotten pigs for such a long time no matter what scientific test been carried out to justify it's purity. The matter is rather psychological, I will fall sick for sure, so am not ready to traval to shanghai within the coming 5 months...

SO, how many dead pigs found in the river do you need to declare the water polluted and a danger for the public health and the environment? 7,545+1, +2, +3? Who gives more? Or is that they don't give a... about this!
