Man in Underwear Protests at Confucian Temple

Man in Underwear Protests at Confucian Temple

On February 2 at around 17:00, a 54-year-old man from Sichuan stood outside the door of the Temple of Confucius in Qufu, the home of the Chinese philosopher, and (symbolically) used a hook to try and fish in the dry ground beneath. Later, after not catching anything, the man stripped down to only his underwear, and lifted up a placard reading: “Buying a ticket home for Spring Festival is hard! Pollution is even more terrifying! Can I ask Confucius, what we should do? The card also featured the contact details of a charity organization asking for help.

Well, well! Its good to protest, rather than just putting up with something. The cost of living is climbing very rapidly across China and for most people the wages are incredibly low. Its tragic indeed if people can no longer return home during the time honoured Spring Festival due to poverty. And pollution is another serious concern too, what with the recent deluge of dirty smog across Chinese cities. I think it best, however to just protest against one thing at a time to gain greater impact on people's attention.
