First of all, Anglicanism - that is, the Church of England - is a protestant church: it originated specifically for the purpose of breaking its allegiance from the Vatican. As stupid as it is, a blood-rivalry exists to this day throughout some pockets of the world between Catholics and Anglicans because of this. Secondly, according to Catholic doctrine, the pope is the intermediary between the everyday catholic person and God - that is why he commands the authority he does throughout world Catholicism. So technically (although I personally don't see a problem with it), a Catholic who does not acknowledge the Pope is actually not Catholic - they're technically not anything; doctrinally speaking they are just a confused "christian" of somekind. And I am aware that a loyal Catholic would beat the crap out of me for making that statement.
Nevertheless 'God', you raise an interesting connundrum for the modern Christian: how to reconcile national/political loyalties with one's faith?
Though I'm not Christian myself, I can tell you the educated Catholic will reply back:
"Give on to Caesar what is Caesar's; Give on to God what is God's".
[in other words, no disloyalty is implied to Beijing if the Chinese Catholic recognises the spiritual authority of the Vatican]
